In 1967 Patrick McGoohan devised, created, wrote and starred in a rather bizarre 17 episode series called “The Prisoner”.
The basic premise of the series was the Patrick is a British secret agent who retires from service rather noisily, returns to his flat to pack for a vacation, is gassed and kidnapped and wakes to find himself trapped as one of the inhabitants of “The Village”.
He can’t work out who is running it (remember this is in the middle of the Cold War) and instead occupies himself alternately driving the masters of the village crazy and attempting to escape.
The show would be an obscure bit of Brit-TV if it weren’t for the cult status that this show picked up quickly after it was cancelled. Number 2 the replaceable apparatchik, Rover the creepy rubber ball attack dog and the excellent Lotus 7 KAR120C. Great characters, some excellent choices for Number 2 (Leo McKern is my favourite) and some really wierd sh1t make this show one of my few DVD pickups.
